Welcome to The MISS Foundation's
A grandchild has died. The loss is almost too much to bear, and impossible to comprehend. When my grandson died in 1989, I was extremely angry! The usual questions arose: Why my kids? Why my family? Why this beautiful, healthy, loved, wanted child?
Alliance of Grandparents, A Support in Tragedy
AGAST has operated since 1993 as an all volunteer organization dedicated to helping grandparents through the trauma, stress and grief after the loss of a grandchild. The organization has grown to such proportions that we are unable to keep up with all the changes, so in 2007 we merged with the MISS Foundation, another wonderful group of caring, loving, and compassionate volunteers, mostly bereaved parents, who have the physical and emotional stamina, not to mention the sheer numbers, to serve our bereaved grandparent community in the manner we deserve. And although the MISS Foundation's focus is on pregnancy, infant and toddler loss, remember that the MISS Foundation's Alliance of Grandparents, A Support in Tragedy will continue to support bereaved grandparents through any grandchild loss, no matter what the age or circumstances.
At the MISS Foundation website you will find sections for families, children, and professionals, as well as forums for everyone who is grieving the loss of a child, grandchild or sibling. Please visit the website and see what it has to offer for you. (My personal favorite is Cherish Corner, a place with ideas for memorials, poetry, articles and advice). There also is an open (to all members) forum board at http://missfoundation.org/forums/.
We will continue to maintain the closed (for grandparents only) forum board under the name The Grand Brigade. We will be making the necessary changes so that the transition from AGAST to the MISS Foundation goes smoothly and all our grandparents, whether long time members or newbies, receive the same caliber of service both organizations have always delivered.
If you are a bereaved grandparent and would like to receive a packet of information on dealing with your grief and helping your children and other grandchildren deal with theirs, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line "AGAST Packet Request." Be sure to include your name, address, your deceased grandchild's name and birth and death dates, along with any other information you would like to share. The MISS Foundation will send you a bereavement packet.
